The Movies – Fansites

  • TheOneRing.net: one of the oldest Tolkien sites on the web and the best source for Tolkien and Movie news
  • A Dog’s Dinner: the flip-side of Tolkien fans and the movies; one of the most thorough and insightful purist evaluations of the film trilogy (via Archive.org)
  • The Lord of the Rings Image Library: literally thousands of screencaps from all three films
  • Forumshire: The Hobbit Movie Forum: the largest (and in my opinion best) Tolkien forum founded during The Hobbit era (full disclosure: I used to own this site)
  • DM of the Rings: an awesome webcomic telling the story of a D&D campaign based on The Lord of the Rings

Other Fandoms

  • MuggleNet: all sorts of Harry Potter news and information.  Be sure to read the hilarious Wall of Shame
  • StarDestroyer.Net: various topics related to Star Wars, Star Trek, and science
  • Darths & Droids: a webcomic that applies the basic concept of DM of the Rings to the Star Wars universe
  • Westeros: the ultimate A Song of Ice and Fire mega-site
  • AvatarSpirit.Net: comprehensive Avatar: The Last Airbender fansite, including forums
  • Original ATLA Official Site: contains much information that was removed from later versions

Everything Else

  • BBC News: if you’re an American like me who is used to the corporate news, get ready for a breath of fresh air.  If you’re not an American, remind yourself how lucky you are to have a decent news media
  • Cracked.com: a very nice general humor site that I found through their article “50 Reasons Lord of the Rings Sucks”
  • YouTube: is there anything I can say about this that hasn’t been said a million times before?  I think not
  • Google Chrome:The browser of the future
  • Box Office Mojo: the best movie- and box office-tracking site on the web.  Has a huge database of films with a lot of information on their theatrical runs and how much money they made
  • Metacritic: a site that tracks critical reviews for movies and video games and calculates a weighted average.  Better than Rotten Tomatoes, which just tallies the number of positive reviews
