A little more about me

I was born in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1990s and have lived in the area ever since. I attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and graduated in 2013 with a degree in political science. I developed an interest in fantasy stories at an early age, especially ones with detailed fictional worlds and large casts of characters. In retrospect, this was probably at least partially about escapism, due to a frequently unpleasant home life growing up. My earliest fictional loves were Star Wars and Harry Potter, but I was introduced to Tolkien by my father. I was a little resistant at first, for reasons I don’t clearly remember, but I first read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings when I was nine years old and adored them.

My interest in Tolkien has been pretty much constant since then, though it ebbs and flows somewhat. A year or two later I borrowed The Silmarillion from a friend who I played Dungeons & Dragons with, and began to explore Tolkien’s posthumous works in earnest after buying Unfinished Tales while killing time in a bookstore waiting for the midnight release of the final Harry Potter novel. I watched the movies around this same time (2007), as my parents became more relaxed about PG-13 movies. I began posting regularly on the LOTR Fanatics Plaza in December 2008, though I had registered nearly two years before, and quickly became active not just on that site but in the broader online Tolkien fandom as well.

Ramble On

I have various interests and hobbies unrelated to Tolkien, some of which I like writing about almost as much as I enjoy writing about Tolkien.  Any pages that don’t fit into the main Tolkien-related categories will go here.
